Rock Drumming News
News: Richie Hayward Benefit in San Jose, August 13, 2010
DRUM! Magazine — the leading magazine for drummers and percussionists worldwide — has announced the biggest drumming event ever to take place in Northern California. On Friday, August 13, drummers will descend on the San Jose Repertory Theatre in the heart of Silicon Valley to witness three of the world’s most exciting drummers — extreme drumming sensation Marco Minnemann, Tower Of Power funk master David Garibaldi, and former Mars Volta wunderkind Thomas Pridgen — for an evening of mind-blow...
News: Tandemoro Drummer Beats the Machines
Tandemoro is a cool band from the L.A. area. I remembered this promo vid they did for their Mexican Motown EP, because it focuses on the man behind the machines, Shannon McKinnon. Not often you see the band concentrating on anyone but the front man (singer).
News: Twice the Beats!
I just started listening to these guys and I'm really liking them. they have two drummers and they really make the most of it. I was just recently thinking about how cool it would be to have a band with two drummers. It opens up the doors to so many other awesome beats that one drummer just cant take care of. So here is a video of Pick A Piper live, you can skip the first half cause it takes a while for the drums to really come in. Its also really sweet when they share the crash symbol. I lov...
News: Some of the Few Interviews of Bonham
There weren't many interviews with Bonham in them but here is one of the few, just as Zeppelin is hitting their peek. Here is another one of just Bonham, he remains very modest but there's also a side of him that sort of knows he the best. Here's some more sweet Bonham videos, they're not interviews but they are some great solos This one is ridiculous, it looks like it's being sped up, but its not, its just his regular speed: insane
News: RINGO STAR talks about his drumming style
Here is a pretty cool video of Ringo Star talking about his drumming style in an interview, its pretty interesting, check it out!

News: Who knew Jack white could drum so freakin' awesomley?
This is a 20 minute set of the Dead Weather from a site called From The Basement. This band is really crazy, but my favorite part of it is by far Jack White on drums, i think he really lays it down for the rest of the band.
News: Dueling Drums Cover Lady Gaga - Telephone
Ricky Ficarelli does some rather good editing for his duel drum kit cover of Lady Gaga's Telephone. I was initially hoping it was twins and not one guy.... bummer. But the mix is cool. Not Travis Barker cool, but alright.
News: Often Under Appreciated
Meg White is often not fully respected as a drummer and just seen as more of a background to Jack Whites stage act. But i really respect what shes doing and her style. I think she's really just sticking to the rock and roll roots and not trying to go for anything too fancy. Is a good reminder of how key simplicity can be. I thinks she's in the pocket. Here is another video from "From the Basement" of The White Stripes, Blue Orchid.
News: Brad Mehldau Trio
Here is a pretty wild video of a band called the Brad Mehldau Trio. They are an experimental jazzband, but they do alot of really cool covers of different rock songs by artists like Radiohead, The Beatles, Nick Drake, and Paul Simon. So in this video they are doing a cover of the song "Knives Out", by Radiohead. The drummer, (Jeff Balard) plays a ridiculous beat with really original ghost notes thrown carfully all over the place, its just a really impressive and unique beat, he does a great r...
News: Them Crooked Vultures "Scumbag Blues"
Them Crooked Vultures: The Super SuperGroup So glad Dave Grohl's back on drums.
News: Nick Mason of Pink Floyd rocks out at Pompeii
I love this video. Especially the overhead camera angle.
News: Animal Husbandry
Here is the link to the myspace of the band (I play drums) that I'm in called Animal Husbandry. The live recordings are from a show that we did for this benefit concert and the House of Blues. The quality isnt too good, and you cant hear the drums too well but you can get the idea. Tell me what you think.
News: Dosh
Here is a video of what i think is an awesome drummer, his full name is Martin Luther King Chavez Dosh. He doese really interesting stuff because he loops his drum tracks so that he can overlap different beats, and create cymphonies of percussion! i think hes great, he's played alot with Andrew Bird, one of my favorite artists, check it out.
News: Lasse Gjertsen
Lasse Gjertsen is a pretty cool dude. I know he's not really playing these drums so it doesnt really count, but he comes up with some really cool beats. Its really inspiring to me just to hear a beat that he creates. He is a young man from Norway, hes great with film and editing, and thats how he creates these videos. He just films himself making different noises, and then goes back through the recording compiling the sounds in different combination's to make beats. It inspires me, and I love...

News: Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Tastiest Funk Drummer of All
Bernard "Pretty" Purdie is one of the funkiest drummers of all time. With his carefully rationed ghost notes and brilliantly placed hi-hat groves, its no wonder why he became one of the most recorded drummers of all time. His famous Bernard "Pretty" Purdie shuffle is one of today's most commonly sampled beats in the hip-hop industry. But you can find that is not all that he has influenced, he also very strongly influences rock drummers all over the world. In Led Zeppelin's Fool in the rain, y...

I really hope i get the chance to go to one of these before i die.
News: Levon Helm Instructional Video
This is one of my favorite instructional videos, short but sweet. I really do suggest putting tape on your drums if they don't sound too good. If they kind of ring out or have too much of an echo sound, just muffle them down with tape like he says and it gives them a much more raw, deep sound. Levon's the best, you gotta love him.
News: Levon Helm Bustin' Out the Nitty-Gritty Mud Beats
Levon Helm... The longtime drummer for The Band , Levon Helm wore many musical hats throughout his long career, including multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, singer, impressario, studio owner, studio engineer and producer. He grew up working on a farm in Arkansas; his first instrument was guitar, which he began playing at ag eight, but after seeing the F.S. Walcott Rabbits Foot Minstrels, he decided to ...
News: John Bonham the Innovative King of Rock Drumming
... Describing the style of John Bonham's drumming instantly conjurs up visions of the thunderous power he created. His contributions to rock music were revolutionary, and his talent unmatched and irreplaceable. You can only imagine Jimmy Page's reaction to first seeing him in 1968, ending his search for a new drummer to form a new band, the New Yardbirds (later renamed Led Zeppelin.)
